Speak Life

” The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit. ” Proverbs 18:21

Change the Game

So, a few weeks ago, I discussed how changing the way I prayed has changed my prayer life. Which is true, but if you think about it, part of it is how I talk to God. How I talk in general, has also changed. You may have heard sermons where your tongue is a double-edged sword, or how you need to watch your language and not let foul things out of it, and all of this is true…. but, did you know, that you can speak life? Did you know that by not only trying to tame your tongue from evil, you can also use it to change your life? You can use it to make things happen… Let me explain.

” The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit. ” Proverbs 18:21

So, there it is ^ in the Bible, which is just one of the many scriptures that discuss the power of the tongue. But, a few years ago, I walked into a church that actually practices this. A church that when we opened for prayer in the morning, the Pastor started praying, “That you may be the head and not the tail, that you will be above and not below, that God will open up his windows of blessings and pour them out upon you, that you will have exceptional overflow.” Ummm, YES, PLEASE?!?!? I started praying that over my life. I embraced that. And, let me say, God does not disappoint, I think we all know that I’ve shared that.

But, what else can the tongue do?

17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons;they will speak in new tongues;18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” – Mark 16:17-18

It speaks life! Don’t just try to tame your tongue not to curse, but to heal the sick, to claim your blessings, to drive out demons. I was talking to one of my Christian friends a few years ago, and I was complaining about some stuff that had happened that day. And, she says, “You know what I do? I go over to a door, and say, ‘Satan, GET OUT!’ and then I slam the door behind him.” She physically assists her tongue in telling Satan to get out of here! And, he does! It’s always so incredible! So powerful!

Another part of taming your tongue is not complaining. Have you ever noticed, the more you complain, the more there seems to be to complain about? But, if you don’t complain… there seems to be less to complain about? I think, it’s because, when we complain we’re admitting defeat, giving the devil his in. And he just uses that to jump all over us. But, if we claim Jesus, and Victory over our situations, God steps in. You know, one time, I made a joke about, “Not today, Satan.” but, then, the joke goes on, where Satan’s like, “But you’ve been putting me off for weeks now, when are we going to get together?” Now, at first I read the little joke, but, then I repeated it out loud to a few people…. then, I had the worst several weeks of my life, and had to claim Jesus all over my situation for a while to “undo” the provocation I had caused. I know that may seem silly, but I’m a little nervous just writing it. Because it’s real. We’re really at work in a war between the worlds, and although God has the victory, we live in a fallen world where Satan is most definitely alive and well.

It Heals

I recently listened to a missionary who suddenly fell very ill right before a missionary trip. She seriously considered going to the hospital, but she was afraid that if she went, they wouldn’t let her go on the trip. So she prayed about it. And the word she received, was to act like she wasn’t sick. Do all the things you would do, as if you weren’t sick. So, for almost an entire day, she was doubled-over, sweating, in agonizing pain, sick to her stomach, – going to church, standing up for worship, raising her hands and dancing for the Father, she went out to lunch (like they always do), she ate food (even though she had no appetite), she just kept going about her business and thanking God, praying to God, asking him for his healing. And, just hours before they were to leave, the affliction suddenly stopped, just as suddenly as it had began.

The stories of healing go on and on, I could probably do a whole entry just on ones I’ve heard. That’s because we serve the great physician. The great Healer. He’s the one who made us, he always knows how to fix us. I recently heard another testimony of miraculous healing of a cancerous tumor that had amassed to the size of an orange in a very short time, suddenly healing overnight after the laying on of hands. Verified by doctors both times, “Yep, definitely cancer.” to “I can’t find it.”

I mean, HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD?!? Speak it over your life! My God is GREAT, He can do anything and everything! You just need to believe, and testify to the power of His greatness! One of the things, I constantly remind myself when I start to feel doubt creep in, “I believe in the SAME GOD who raised CHRIST FROM THE DEAD!” Just that thought sends chills through me. That’s the God I serve. That’s my amazing, incredible, GREAT GOD!!

“Whoever would love life
    and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech. ” 1 Peter 3:10

“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians 4:6

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29

” The soothing tongue is a tree of life,
but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit. ” Proverbs 15:4

“What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” Matthew 15:11

” Those who guard their mouths and their tongues
keep themselves from calamity.” Proverbs 21:23

“The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them. The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm.” Proverbs 12:6-7

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your goodness. Thank you for your grace. Thank you for your healing! Inside and out. Thank you for your mighty hand and incredible miracles. Thank you for this time together. We pray today Father, that you lay your hand on our tongues. That we may only speak life. That we may go forth in your Word, and shine your light upon others. That your healing rain may pour out upon us. That your light and love be so present in our lives that others ask us how to find You. I pray that we are the head and not the tail, that we have lives of exceptional overflow. That you open the windows and pour out your blessings upon us. That everything we could ever need, You would provide. I pray that you help us strengthen our Faith, that we see so many miracles in our lives that we can’t shut up about You. I pray that we all draw closer to You, that You draw closer to us. That You keep us in your arms, heal our afflictions, bless our lives, and that we may honor You with all that we are. IN JESUS’ NAME!! AMEN!!!
